“Who is the Portugues language’s greatest detective? Who solves all the mysterious crimes and murders in Lisboa or Rio?
In the USA, of course, we are tremendously proud of Sam Spade (“The Maltese Falcon”) and Phillip Marlowe (“The Big Sleep”). Sam solves all crime in 1920s San Francisco, Phillip solves all crime in Los Angeles 1930s-1950s. William Faulkner wrote the screenplay for “The Big Sleep” starring Humphrey Bogart. And Bogart was also Sam Spade in “Falcon.”
But did you meet Kommissar Hans Barlach, the great detective of Switzerland? I am a HUGE fan of Durrenmatt’s detective stories! Barlach is old, he’s fat, he’s sick — but he’ll catch you!
Also maybe 2 years ago Jack Nicholson made “The Pledge,” one of Durrenmatt’s strangest, most terrifying murder mysteries (so if you want, you can rent the video).
Ah, I must go … “The game’s afoot, Watson!”
